13 Spooky Good New Songs for Friday the 13th

spooky good music

Where does a fear of Friday the 13th come from?

Fun fact: the fear of the number 13 is called triskaidekaphobia. I’m not scared of numbers, so I guess I’m lucky I don’t have it.

Professor of psychology at Connecticut College in New London, Stuart Vyse, said the fear in the United States of Friday the 13th may be rooted in religion. The 13th guest at the Last Supper was Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus. Jesus was then crucified on a Friday. It’s also been argued that Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit on a Friday. Abel was also slain by his brother Cain on Friday the 13th.

In Spain, they’re not scared of Friday the 13th, but they’re horrified by Tuesday the 13th. Tuesday is a day dominated by the god of war, Ares. The fall of Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade occurred on Tuesday, April 13, 1204. In Italy, they fear the number 17 because The Roman numeral XVII can be rearranged to spell “VIXI,” which translated from Latin to “my life is over.” In China, the number 4 (四, pinyin: sì) is unlucky because it is nearly homophonous to the word “death”(死 pinyin: sǐ).

Remember, I’m in New York, so Friday the 13th is the spooky date here. Thought some history would be fun before we got to the good music.

Before we get to the FIRE NEW music, I want to give a shoutout to Major Lazer for continuing their effort in using their platform to aid those in need. On Monday, October 16th in Miami, Major Lazer is hosting a charity concert benefitting Caribbean hurricane victims. The concert is called Relief is the Mission.  Tickets are available here.
Proceeds from the event will benefit three charities Major Lazer hopes to aid with their global voice: ConPRmetidos’ Hurricane Maria Recovery FundSave The Children’s Hurricane Maria Children’s Relief Fund; and Global Giving’s Puerto Rico & Caribbean Hurricane Relief Fund.
The four songs after Major Lazer’s new music video are all new features on rBeatzRadio.
