aiwake – Crescent Lane
aiwake is an R&B duo from Canada. They make future R&B with more of an electronic spin. Their new single is called Crescent Lane, a piece that combines elements of old-school production and modern sounds that embody the essence that is aiwake. They lyrics are interesting as well, building up to a strong desire that can’t be kept in. For me, it sounds like a yearning for a love that’s hard to reach. There’s a main voice throughout the single, however, from time to time (around 0:50 and 1:00), you’ll hear another voice. That other voice sounds distant or dreamy, almost like it’s not attainable to the protagonist.
The ambient noise create an atmosphere of emotion that is felt consistently throughout the single. The building chord progressions give a sense of anticipation that isn’t overbearing; however, a testament to the slow moving of time. When you’re in love and pain at the same time, that moment can feel like forever. This entire piece is beautifully composed, and the harmonies are on POINT.
This song is perfect for post-breakup crying, pregames, studying, relaxing, meditating, finding yourself, looking at a sunset, cooking for your loved one on Valentine’s day, or chillin’ HARD with friends on a lazy Saturday afternoon. There’s an air of mystery to aiwake, fitting in perfectly with the vibe they put out.
