Artist Spotlight: Unlike Pluto
Los Angeles-based artist, Unlike Pluto is quickly becoming one of our favorite producers. The guys is PUMPING out bangers left and right. Listen to these three previously posted tracks to get a taste of where I’m coming from: Searching For You, Found You, and Superstar.
The guy has an eclectic variety of songs that almost have a sense of future bass, trap, dubstep and electronic rock combined into a harmonious flow with dynamic percussion and strategically-placed melodic elements. The sheer fact that I’m having trouble putting him into a genre box is a testament to his unique work in the electronic space.
Unlike Pluto is a songwriter/producer, born and raised in Atlanta, and living in LA. He majored in Biology at Emory University, and is now pursuing a career in music. He is the first act to be managed by DancingAstronaut.com’s founder Senthil Chidambaram, and has joined uber agent Lee Anderson’s pantheon of EDM gods (think Skrillex, Zedd, Disclosure and Steve Angelo).
The track below is the first track he released where he used his own vocals on the production. The song is about that certain person (we all know who) that brings the worst out you. In his case, he admits it’s usually a love interest. During the verses, he acknowledges his awareness of this toxic female, even though he has all the intentions of pursuing further. Just like most toxic relationships, this pursuit brings him to complete misery all for a glimpse of happiness. Lyrics that almost everyone can attest to.
The song below is BUMPIN, featuring fellow producer from Philly, Mike Taylor. About a year ago Mike Taylor and Unlike Pluto both showed up to a writing session in black cars wearing all black. They joked about it for a while, and just like any good ruminating joke, they started working on a song about it, but this time it wasn’t a joke – it was real and real good, too. but then starting working on a song. The song’s inspiration was pulled partly from the infamous Nina Simone interviews. With the horns, bouncing beat, and soulful vocals – this is certainly a song to look forward to at this years summer festivals.
