Artists Who Donate In Times of Need
It has been a season of misfortune for our nation, but today’s leading electronic and pop artists are rising to the challenge at counteracting that misfortune with abundant blessings. August 25, 2017, the unimaginable Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, Texas. Nearly biblical flooding had overtaken the city with no limits and fear and fright were among the Texans. Homes lost lives turned upside down but with old southern strength and guts, the people muscled on. All the demolition and havoc sparked a light in the popular trap house star, Marshmello. His donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross has created a ripple effect of positive aid and vibrations traveling throughout the atmosphere. Soon after, artist and the people who love them have joined in on the bestowing of comfort.
It has been a little over a month since the destruction and disaster of Hurricane Maria’s wrath on Puerto Rico took place. Never in history have we seen such devastation to the commonwealth. Now more than ever it has proven why it’s more than just territory, it is a place of real life that should be cherished. The island of enchantment may have had a horrible blow to its visual appearance but the enchantment within the soul of the island hasn’t suffered one bit. The people of Puerto Rico have resorted to the old ways of living in order to maintain some sort of a life on the island. The banding together of islanders have demonstrated the beauty in human beings which we don’t often see. Unity has kept the enchantment alive and now, the famous Puerto Ricans you have known and loved for many years is strengthening that unity with fruitful and loving donations. Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, Residente, Ricardo Arjona and the list goes on, all have given more than expected of their time, money, affection, and love to Puerto Rico. Ricky Martin has prompted his fans to donate via a YouCaring donation page that has reached a total of $3,946,562. Jennifer Lopez along with Marc Anthony, and Luis Fonsi have joined with the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló to collect donations at Unidos Por Puerto Rico.
This coming Wednesday will mark one month since the horrific catastrophe that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. An evening where our fellow Americans arrived in hopes to enjoy their favorite country music at the Route 91 Harvest festival but to, unfortunately, experience one dreadful devastation. A disgusting display of a lack of love in one human being. To willingly carry out such a vicious act is not only heartbreaking but horrifying, unbelievable, and harmful for us all. The amount of pain and confusion weighs heavy on the consciousness of us all and we need unity more than ever. Electronic dance music is a major hit in Las Vegas, so it was not only fitting but chivalrous to see artists like Diplo, The Chainsmokers, Tiësto, Dillion Francis, Steve Aoki, Kaskade, and Valentino Khan all doing their part. With Diplo and The Chainsmokers(each) donating $100,000 and Tiesto and Steve Aoki help with $200,000 each. A festival of donations from the festival kings.
It’s more than just musicians helping the public, its humans helping humans and that’s how it should always be. It’s deplorable that it takes a tragedy to bring people together, but with acts like this from our icons and heroes we can’t help but be inspired to spread that light from us as well.
