Billie Eilish – &burn

Billie Eilish Vince Staples

Billie Eilish released a new single last week, &burn, and it features Vince Staples. Billie Eilish has impressed me with her unique vocal arrangements and minimal arrangements behind her. She keeps it simple, and she keeps it about her vocals. &burn has a dark vocal tone with a strap style percussion arrangement behind the voice. The piano chords are also dark. The song starts to pick up more with the addition of a dynamic high hat arrangement. The drum arrangement gets bigger and more complex as the song grows, adding an anticipation element throughout the entire song.

Vince Staples comes in for the 3rd verse, and he offers a nice contrast to Billie’s haunting vocals. The song is a remix of her single, watch, which came from her don’t smile at me EP, released about 4 months ago. If you enjoy her voice on &burn, I suggest you take a listen through her EP. The tone and unique arrangement of her voice is getting her all the deserved attention.

Billie Eilish’s full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, and she’s signed to Interscope records. She’s only 16 years old. Her single, Board, was featured on the Netflix hit series 13 Reasons Why. I’m excited to hear what the young artist has in store for 2018.
