Brasstracks – For Those Who Know Part 1
Basstracks recently came out with their new EP, For Those Who Know Part 1, the first section of their two part project, For Those Who Know, a jazzy anthology of art that pays homage to the duo’s New York roots. Basstracks are made up of Ivan Jackson and Conor Rayn, both classically trained musicians who met and combined forces at the Manhattan School of Music. Ivan was the trumpet player and Conor was a drummer. Now, they’re grammy award winning producers, who produced Chance The Rapper’s No Problem featuring 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne, which won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance. In the duo’s new EP, you can most certainly hear Chance’s jazzy vibe.
Since winning their first Grammy, Basstracks looks towards success on their own project. For Those Who Know Part 1 is a step in that direction.
Basstracks send along a quote about the EP…
“For Those Who Know is the first time we’ve felt comfortable in our own skin making a project. It’s a confessional, it’s a coming of maturity, it’s an ode to New York City. In Part I you get to know our roots. We poured our hearts into this, we hope you dig it.”
The arrangements of each track illustrate a tenderness and seduction within in each measure and throughout each swift transition. You can hear the purpose with each note, aiding towards a sense of charm, groove, soul and relaxation. You not only hear the emotion in the vocals, but throughout each instrument. With elements of hip-hop, jazz, funk, electronic, and soul, I’m thrilled to hear where Basstracks’ old but modern sound takes them. The entire EP sounds like it’s recorded live, right in front of your ears. I speak a lot about new music having bother a sense of nostalgia with something new, and Basstracks’ new EP does just that.
