Damian La Grange – Pictures (Feat. Emily Vay)
Damian La Grange has been compared to Twenty One Pilots, Allan Rayman, and Jon Bellion. His new song with Emily Vay has soul and emotion in the instrument arrangement. The harmony between Emily’s soulful voice and Damian’s more straight forward rapping style dance beautifully together. I talk a lot about the dance between vocals and instrumentation, and Damian’s production is on point with the two different vocal arrangements.
There is a sense of darkness within the production. The piano, distant synths, and atmospheric guitar create a soundscape of melancholy and mystery. The composition builds up to a cinematic ending that really makes me listen to this single as a story, from start to finish.
The song’s lyrics speak to something a lot of people can relate to: the loss of childhood innocence and rumination of self-doubt and mistakes made in adulthood.
“Take my pictures off the fridge, we both know I’m not that kid now, momma.”
