Dan Caplen – Flat Champagne feat. Ray BLK
Up-and-coming UK soul/R&B sensation, Dan Caplen, teams up with BBC Sound Of 2017 winner, Ray BLK to release his debut single, Flat Champagne. Dan was classically trained in Portland, Oregon and moved to Brixton, England to pursue music. Ray BLK is also from London, creating a nice harmony with her London counterpart.
Blues vocals with a rhythmic funk arrangement create an R&B pop style hit, wonderfully mixed and mastered for late night radio. There is a sense of hope in the entire arrangement, giving an essence of the meaning of true happiness. The song is a telling tale of moving to the big city with wide eyes and the hope for a luxurious future.
“You move to the big city thinking that things are going to happen instantly, but it rarely turns out like that,” Dan explains. “You’ve got to keep plugging away until someone listens. And in the meantime, you can still have fun without any money!”
The young Londoner is of Caribbean descent, and he both accessible and classy. The yin and yang that is so sought after in the music industry. Similar to the nostalgia and modern vibes producers and singers look for these days. This song also fulfills the previous yin and yang since Dan’s composition includes sampling classic and charismatic sounds. Authenticity, talent and rawness are the qualities that will drive Dan Caplen in 2017 and beyond. Excited to hear what he comes up with next!
In addition to releasing his debut single, Caplen has also announced that he will be playing Dalston’s famous haunt, Birthday’s on Wednesday 6th September. Tickets are on sale now: www.myticket.co.uk/artists/dan-caplen
