Dauwd – Theory Of Colours
I had an interesting day yesterday. I recently moved to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York, United States, North America, Planet Earth, and I’ve been trying to find some cool music spots around me. I ran into my friend who spins vinyl at this place that looked like a coffee bar from the outside. The place was called Magick City, a certified 20C commissary kitchen shared by local food-based start-ups where a community of sympathetic culinary innovators share ideas, co-op raw materials, have access to industrial food production equipment, and collective mentorship. They’re also a epicenter in the northern Greenpoint community for music and film.
What sets them apart from anywhere else I’ve been is the people inside. Rich and JD were the most compassionate, caring, and giving hosts. I’ve never wanted to hang out in an establishment like that before. Their entire vibe was warm, inviting, and communal. They gave me some literature about Greenpointers, the hyperlocal guide and connector about all things Greenpoint. It was a map of all the open studios for artists in Greenpoint. I’m going to check out some cool local things this summer and update everyone on rBeatz. #LocalStuff
One of the cooler things that happened last night was experimental producer Dauwd, showed up for a secret set. Dauwd is a German producer, working for labels such as Ninja Tunes, Kompakt, Ghostly International, and Pictures Music. He was in New York before for heading to Montréal for a show. He put on an intimate vibe for about 3 hours for 20 people or so. I don’t have any pictures or videos of his set because it was a more private setting. You had to be there for the vibe he was putting on. That was the point of his music. Take a listen to a couple selections off Dauwd’s new album, Theory Of Colours, to get a sense of the vibe. Headphones or great speakers always highly encouraged.
