Mike Williams On Track: An Artist Interview
We’re bringing a new DJ to rBeatzRadio. His name is Mike Williams and he’s from Kortenhoef, North Holland. You might have heard the name before. He’s best known for his work on with Tiësto and as an artist of Spinnin’ Records. The Dutch record label was recently purchased by Warner Music Group. They recognized Mike Williams as an artist of the future, pioneering such genres as future house and future bounce.

Where are you from and how has that shaped the musician you are today?
The Netherlands! Of course a lot of DJ’s are from the Netherlands, so maybe that had an influence on me when I was young.
What instruments did you all play when you were younger?
Are there an instruments that you currently wish you COULD play?
I would love to be able to play the guitar.
Tell us the story of how you started creating music on the computer?
I got an old laptop and speakers from my dad. At that time, I started producing in FL studio, and a couple of months later, I bought a really cheap DJ setup. Then it was just a matter of practicing a lot!
What was your favorite studio moment when producing your newest single, Lullaby?
It was cool when we decided to make a new drop, replacing the old one. Suddenly, we created this new cool drop which fitted perfectly with the break.
How did you and R3HAB compliment each other?
R3hab really knew what he wanted, so it was super clear what we wanted to make. He came with the great vocal, and I started working on the idea for the drop. So, the collaboration between each other went really well.
What do you like to do when you’re simply hanging out – aside from music?
I like to just hang out with friends, playing games, going out! Just doing normal things:)
Who are your musical influences?
I don’t really have a couple of particular artist that influence me. I listen to a lot of different electronic music!
Who is one of your favorite acts right now to watch live?
I love to see Axwell and Ingrosso live, because they have these incredible show elements!
Do you have a favorite NEW artists that doesn’t have much of a following?
Brooks is doing really well at the moment!
Who has been one of your favorite artists to collab with?
Collabing with Tiesto, Brooks, and R3hab was great!
What are some of your favorite venues to play and why?
Some clubs in Asia are crazy. A couple of weeks ago, I played at Ministry of Sound in London which was great too.
What has been one of your favorite festivals to play at and why?
What DAW do you use and why?
Logic X. It’s easy to use and I like to work on Apple. It fits perfectly.
What is your favorite MIDI Controller or instrument to produce with right now?
Just a midi keyboard 🙂
What is one of your favorite or go-to VST Plugin?
Do you have a key production tip for our young producers out there?
Don’t give up too early on projects, keep going and going and eventually you’ll see it works out 🙂
Do you have a special organization process for production?
I’m the worst in organizing and naming my projects!
Where has been one of your favorite places in the world to travel to?
South Africa and Thailand!
Do you have a favorite in-studio snack?
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
If you were a Spotify playlist, which one would you be?
Mint playlist! They support me a lot!
What is next for Mike Williams?
A lot of new music, collabs, and doing some really cool shows this year!
