EDEN – crash

eden crash

This is a slower one. The 21-year old artist from Dublin, Ireland, EDEN, released his new single, crash, today. What caught my attention with this track wasn’t only EDEN’s soft and comforting vocal tone and arrangement, but also the distorted vocals starting at the 1:17 mark. It’s a change to a slightly more robotic feel in the tone of the vocals and instrument elements, alluding towards a contrast between authenticity and the virtual world. The crippling emotional pull after heartbreak that doesn’t seem real.

The song is meant to ditch overcomplicated production to emphasize the rawness of his vocals and lyrics, which are a stream of consciousness of emotions that happen after heartbreak. There’s a struggle to stay strong, but as the last line states, “don’t feel much better but I guess that its a start.” EDEN’s songwriting is sublime, with forward thinking arrangements and stellar syntax.

EDEN’s first album, Vertigo, will be out January 2018. After the release, he will embark on his Vertigo World Tour . Jonathon Ng aka EDEN was formally known as The Eden Project. He released 6 EPs under that name.
