GIBBZ – Get You Some

gibbz get you some

GIBBZ releases Get You Some, a rhythmic, sensual dance party between two lovers who listen to each others needs while ignoring societal taboos. While the verses are quite minimal on the funk side of things, the hook brings another vocal element and funky guitar melody to add layers. The song was written by Mike Gibney and Steven Colyer. I’m guessing the phrase “more cowbell!” was said during the recording session. I also like how there’s a shaker when GIBBZ says, “your body’s gonna shake!” Added another dimension for me. We also can’t forget that GROOVY bassline, which is the backbone of the entire production.

GIBBZ has an amazing voice range. I had the opportunity to see him perform with French Horn Rebellion on their YouTooCanWoo label opening party. Watch the video below, and listen to those high notes.

The New York native artist is a graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, focusing his studies on music production. After graduating, he became a full-time audio engineer touring internationally and spending most of his time inside the studio. He did this for 5 years and realized the work was fairly thankless. Throughout his career as an audio engineer, he was fortunate enough to work with Gramatik who eventually founded the Lowtemp record label. Them and Exmag eventually convinced him that drinking heavily and singing your heart out was a viable career option for the talented producer and singer, thus GIBBZ was born.

He’s since toured with the likes of Cherub, Ghost Beach and The Floozies. Listen to Get You Some by GIBBZ below.
