LAB – Outta Town

LAB outta town

I love running into new artists on Soundcloud with a minimal following and fresh sound, especially within the hip-hop genre. Hip-hop was one of my first true loves in music after a short stint in punk rock (Linkin Park, Good Charlotte, Greenday, Blink 182).

Half of the Top 10 songs on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts right now fall under the hip-hop category. What I’m personally interested in, is finding popular permutations in the genre. What’s next? I’m a believer that a popular permutation of hip-hop will form from indie/pop and a more conscious hip-hop, bringing back a focus on lyrics like we had in the late 90s early 2000s. Something similar to Chiddy Bang or more recently, Logic.

I found this hip-hop track and loved it, especially for a late summer/early fall back to school vibe. The artist (or artists) goes by the name of LAB. There isn’t much about them online, and it seems like they’re just starting to put more stuff out. They have a fresh pop sound, with a fire hip-hop verse on the second hook.
