Lucian – Do My Thing ft. Philosofie

Lucian Let me do my thing

Harmony is very difficult to achieve with vocals in music production. Producers record the vocals, and then they have to create a vibe around those vocals. Part of me believes that all well-recorded vocals, even ones that might be considered “bad”, have their appropriate harmony with the accompanying instrumentation. It’s the producers job to find that.

Lucian is one of my favorite producers creating harmony and rhythm around the vocals he works with. On Lucian’s new single, Do My Thing, there is a piano element that reminds us of a Marian Hill piano arrangement. He then brings in soft, stabbing synths and for the drop, a flute! All of these distinct melody elements harmonize fantastically with the vocals. Lucian is also known for his dynamic percussion arrangements that guide the listener’s energy effortlessly.

Lucian started off in the future bass realm, now he’s getting into one of my favorite genres, chill trap; centered around dynamic trap percussion elements, downtempo vocals, and a melody element. 20 year old New York singer/songwriter Philosofie supplied the light-weight vocals on the track. I was immediately drawn by the subtle softness of her voice.
