Mac Ayres ft. Raelee Nikole – Just What You Say

mac ayres

It’s always an exciting time when I come across up and coming artists destined for greatness. So when I became familiar with Mac Ayres, a twenty-one-year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist from Sea Cliff, New York, I was immediately hooked. He’s currently signed to Fete Records, has garnered the attention of media outlets such as Pigeons and Planes, Complex and Noisey (VICE). Ayres debuted his EP Drive Slow back in August of 2017 and it went on to be featured on Billboard’s Top 15 R&B Albums of 2017 at number thirteen.

Last month, the soulful crooner released Just What You Say featuring singer Raelee Nikole. It’s a melodic joint that could easily serve as the soundtrack for a late night cruise on the highway. Neither Mac nor Raelee outshine each other on the track, there is no overpowering moment from either one of them. Instead, they both allow each other to showcase their talent and allowing the song to reach higher heights. On the production front, drums provided by Chris Anderson are blended with the sounds of steady synths and beautiful chord progressions. Overall, it’s a smooth and calming song that bursts at the seam with a new-age soul and provides the simplicity that sometimes the soul just needs.

If you aren’t familiar with Mac Ayres I suggest that you do so and quickly. He’s away on tour in Europe but will be headed back to the states for a three-city tour hitting New York City, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.
