Magna – Wasted (feat. Mystery Skulls)

If you’re a fan of bass music’s dark undersides, I’ve got a feeling you’re going to like Magna‘s new single, Wasted, featuring Mystery Skulls. It’s a genre-crosser for sure, combining elements of emo rock, drum n bass, and dubstep. Mystery Skulls is an indie/pop artist signed to Warner Brother Records. The vocal tone they have going on Wasted reminded me of Blink-182’s I Miss Youbringing me back to those emo-punk-rock days that lasted a couple years.

There’s another nostalgia element at work within the synths, bringing me back to 80s disco. The unique mix of genre’s coincide with a nice build and drop that’s super heavy with some finely rounded bass sounds and fast-paced energy. The contrast between the emo vocals and almost angry/powerful bass sounds create an interesting dialogue, portraying the different emotions someone interested in this sort of music might feel.

Magna is a post-ironic neo-ravepunk artist based out of Philadelphia, PA (that’s code for Pennsylvania for all of you unfamiliar with American state abbreviations). Mystery Skulls is from Dallas, TX (Texas) and is currently living in Los Angeles.
