Mahalia – Hold On ft Buddy
Fresh off the heels of her debut single Sober, Mahalia releases Hold On. If you haven’t had the chance to get familiar with Mahalia and her work, I strongly suggest that you do. Seeing that she just sold-out her first ever London show and is headed on a 9-day tour across the United Kingdom and Ireland, it’s only a matter of time before she is making huge waves in the United States.
Staying true to her youthfulness, she is only 19 after all, Mahalia appears to be an open-book, transforming the typical teenage experience of love (or lust) and dating into a catchy tune. Straying away from the somber, heavy bass and synth sounds that most of her peers these days are gravitating towards, she opts for an upbeat tempo twinged with island influences, which may or may not be a nod to her Caribbean roots. Another fresh face that makes a pleasant appearance on the single is Buddy, a Compton rapper who has also been making waves in 2017.
Mahalia is undeniably a talented force to be reckoned with and I’m excited for more music from her. But for now, take a listen to Hold On below and if you want to take a deeper dive into Mahalia’s music catalog, listen to her EP Diary of Me here.
