SAINt JHN – Selfish

SAINt JHN releases his Collection One album and one of my favorite singles off the project is Selfish. With quaint melodies and soulful vocals, Selfish is an easy listen. The ambiance comes in strong and the vocals come in soothing. This contrast creates an R&B harmony that’s perfect for car rides, loving, pregames, relaxing, working, studying, cooking, cleaning, and any activity where silence isn’t an option. I found the melodies quite unique. There’s a reverbed string, xylophone, bass, and high-octave crooning vocal sound that are all simply cool sounds.

The Brooklyn based artist has written songs for Usher, Jidenna, and Hoodie Allen. After a couple years of writing, he wanted to start his own project. He didn’t want to hide behind other people’s music anymore, ready for the spotlight. Throughout the album, SAINt JHN goes through highs and lows. He discusses crazy nights out, and low points in his mental health. The vibes are quite eclectic throughout – I highly recommend listening through.
