Sammy Porter Feat. Jessica Agombar – What We Started (A Bit Patchy)
Sammy Porter releases his new single today, What We Started. The song features hype vocals from East London raised, cockney songstress, Jessica Agombar. For someone like me who grew up on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, this song brings back happy memories. One of my favorite scenes from Fresh Prince was when Carleton and Will Smith did their THANG to the Sugarhill Gang’s Apache (Jump On It).
What We Started samples that song, giving it a house vibe. Sammy Porter, the London-based international DJ, producer, and label manager, released this song via MistaJam’s Speakerbox Recordings via Insanity Records / Sony Music. It’s a perfect song for a Friday event, listening to get your night ramped up. The song is super high-energy with and uplifting tone.
The original song, A Bit Patchy, was released in October. Today, Sammy Porter released his new version with vocals from Jessica Agombar. This addition really completed the song in my opinion, giving the original an additional narrative in the form of English grime. Her vocals remind me a bit of when Azealia Banks came out with 212.
The original has been played by the likes of Danny Howard, DJ Target, DJ Charlesy and Steve Smart. It surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify.
Sammy passed along a quote about the song…
“From the second I started playing it out I knew it had to see a release date. Luckily MistaJam slid in my DMs about it and here we are. For vocals, Jess was the first person that came to mind. We’ve worked on music for years and I knew her East London cockney sound would work wonders. She kept the party / club vibe of the original and just run with it!”
Sammy Porter has played gigs all around the world: UK, Marbella, Ibiza, Monaco & Dubai’s most elite venues. He’s known for his live sets and versatile musical taste. He’s done official remixes for Tinie Tempah, Jeremih, Ella Eyre and more.
