Sepalot will soon release his new album, Hide& as part one of his brand new diptych album, Hide&Seek. The album showcases the veteran artist’s journey into electronic music production following the break up his band, Blumentopf. This is Sepalot’s 5th solo album.
We here at rBeatz were able to get a sneek peak at the album, and we’ve got to say we’re impressed. Hide& certainly has an eclectic mix of sounds, demonstrating the producer from Germany’s versatility in electronic music. The album has elements of electro-funk, hip-hop, future bass, soul, house, indie, and ambiance. Listening to the entire album was a splendid journey, taking the listener through the modern electronic landscape with electronic techniques that have been around for ages. The album was built with the intention of left-field club music built on a foundation of real emotion and technical prowess.
His use of the current electronic landscape while pairing it with older electronic elements reminds us a bit of Boys Noize and Pretty Lights, bringing us to the song we’re premiering here on rBeatz, Schikane, which Sepalot just dropped today.
The title of the song translates from German to bullying. The song has big melodic vocal chops with a hip-hop/fragmented house style beat that really lend to a groovy tune. This screams Boys Noize/Pretty Lights to us: The hip-hop and swinging style vocal chops paired with an elegantly fractured electronic style arrangement. We’re can envision listening to this one in the club or while at home hanging out with friends or working.
DJ’ing is an art form for Sepalot – From Philly to Vienna, Moscow to Mexico City Sepalot pays homage to his 1210s and his MPC, curating his own unique sounds and styles while still making for a dance heavy night.
Like many musicians, the dance floor isn’t the only place you might hear Sepalot’s music. His instrumentals are featured in “Arthur”, Paypal’s online ad campaign, ABCs sitcom Cougar Town or the current trailer to big screen hit “Bridget Jones’ Baby”.
He also runs his own radio show “Egotrippin” for german indie station Ego FM.
We’ll be posting Hide& once it comes out, so stay tuned!
