Friday Feelz – Lucky

st patricks day music playlist

Happy Friday! Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s day. The day commemorates the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. It’s the day Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland, died (c. AD 385–461). Around the world, it’s a celebration of Irish culture and heritage.

Celebrations generally involve parades, festivals, and the wearing of green cloths (or else you get pinched). Christians of Lenten faith attend church services on St. Patrick’s Day. They had restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol, which was eventually lifted and turned on it’s head, propagating the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption. People really don’t like to be told what they can and can’t do.

Luck is typically associated with the Irish. There’s a custom on St Patrick’s Day custom of “drowning the shamrock” or “wetting the shamrock.” This is when a shamrock is put into the bottom of a cup, which is then filled with alcohol. You toast to St. Patrick, then chug. The shamrock is either swallowed or taken out and tossed over the shoulder for good luck. Hopefully the playlist below can help make your St. Patrick’s day a bit more lucky 😉
