Yoke Lore – World Wings
The backing drums and synth really drive this track but the Animal Collective/ tUnE-yArDs vocal harmonies and layering are really what push it far into that stratosphere. The vocals are so crisp, just that extra turn of the reverb knob really transports you to a different world when listening to this. I can really appreciate an indie song that makes you nod your head like you’re listening to some boom bap rap – when the bridge drops on World Wings, I am in heaven (or Queens).
Yoke Lore is a pseudonym, used by Brooklyn based musician Adrian Galvin. When once asked what it meant, Galvin stated “A ‘yoke’ is something that holds things together ‘Lore’ means a set of stories or a collection of ideas about an event, time, or culture.” I think this encompasses a lot of what I heard through my personal journey on World Wings. I’m looking forward to lighting one up and giving this full album a listen.
Adrian even provided a quote about the song, which you know we love here at rBeatz (we’re just the middleman connecting YOU the listener to the artist).
“This song is about starting to whip the wings you have to shake things up around you. If you sit still, you’ll be left behind; get up and don’t let anyone tell you to sit down. When things are hopeless, just keep moving.”
Yoke Lore recently came from playing SXSW , and he even got his face on a popular SXSW Spotify playlist called SXSW Best Indie.
