Doechii
Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, known professionally as Doechii, is a Grammy-winning rapper, singer, and songwriter redefining the sound and scope of hip-hop. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Doechii’s genre-bending style, theatrical flair, and unapologetic storytelling first caught fire on TikTok, catapulting her from indie sensation to signing with Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records in 2022.
Her viral hit “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” introduced a bold, multifaceted voice, while 2023’s “What It Is (Block Boy)” marked her first Billboard Hot 100 entry and a platinum certification. In 2024, she shattered expectations with her critically acclaimed mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, which won Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, making her only the third woman to claim the honor.
Blending sharp lyricism, eccentric alter egos, and genre experimentation, Doechii has collaborated with artists like Tyler, the Creator, Jennie, and Missy Elliott. Her 2025 single “Anxiety” — sampling Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” — debuted in the Billboard top 10, solidifying her place as one of hip-hop’s most inventive rising stars.
Named Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2025, Doechii is as fearless on stage as she is in the studio — channeling inspirations from Lauryn Hill to Busta Rhymes to create an audacious sonic universe all her own.
