GeeJay – Direction

GeeJay releases Direction. They’re a duo inspiring myself in the hopes for a modern jazz renaissance. The future R&B genre could really use these two. Their songwriting is amazing and the harmony makes me feel like I’m in a movie. I was first enchanted by the harmony between Gina’s soulful vocals and the soft piano. Then at around 1 minute and 24 seconds, you JUMP. The beat turns so bouncy, I can’t help from moving. It’s the contrast between pure soul and jumpy jazz that did that. The lyrics talking about needing direction, a real thing that musician’s need so they can focus on their craft.
Gina Jane and Jacob Lobo make up GeeJay, a combination of both their first names. The two North Londoners shared a love for soul, jazz, funk, and hip-hop. Live, they use a looper, Gina’s voice and Jacob’s sax, improvising segments throughout prepared ones.
They’ve been working with Mo Hausle, whose produced for Chaka Khan, Incognito, and One Direction. The two have an EP on the way called Thru Channel.
The have two released singles, and I liked each separately, so I posted both below. Listen to Direction by GeeJay below.
