Q & A with Linxy

Welcome back to rBeatz.com. I’m Terry Hudson, and you’re tuning into Oui Talk Raw from the rBeatz studio. Today, I have two special guests who are trailblazing in the world of networking and technology. Please welcome entrepreneurs Joel Putoff and Leo Adams. Welcome, guys!

Joel Puthoff and Leo Adams: Thanks for having us!

It’s great to have you here. I met you both at a Creative Mornings event, which is always a fantastic networking opportunity. For those who haven’t been, it’s a must-attend in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s where I first heard about your innovative app, Linxy. As a networking enthusiast, I was immediately intrigued. Networking can often be overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to make meaningful connections in a sea of people. Linxy seems like it could be a game changer. But before we dive into that, tell us a bit about your backgrounds. Joel, let’s start with you.

Joel Puthoff: Sure! I’m originally from Ohio and grew up in a large Christian family. I went to college to play baseball, but my journey into entrepreneurship began there. My grades weren’t the best initially, but I found a program called Young Entrepreneurs Across America that taught college students how to run their own businesses. That experience was invaluable. I started a house painting business in college, which led to my first real company after graduation. Over the years, I’ve been involved in various ventures, and Linxy is my fourth company.

That’s impressive! Leo, tell us about your journey.

Leo Adams: Absolutely. My entrepreneurial journey began around the same time as Joel’s, thanks to the same program. It provided me with a solid foundation in running a business. After that, I moved to Charlotte and started Skylink, a drone data service provider. We offer aerial inspections and mapping services nationwide. The experience I gained from running Skylink has been crucial in my role with Linxy.

Fascinating backgrounds! Now, let’s talk about Linxy. What is it, and what makes it stand out?

Joel Puthoff: Linxy is a location-based social connection and experience app. While check-in technology and social media are not new, Linxy brings real-time connections and enhances the networking experience. It’s designed to simplify the process of making meaningful connections at events. Instead of relying on pre-event research and guesswork, Linxy helps users find the right people and conversations with precision. Whether you’re at a conference, trade show, or even a coffee shop, Linxy facilitates connections based on shared interests and goals.

That sounds incredible! I’ve seen how hard it is to connect with people at events, especially when there’s a lack of clarity about who to approach. What was the journey like in developing Linxy?

Joel Puthoff: The journey began in 2018 when I first developed a pitch deck for the app, initially called SocialEyes. Unfortunately, the pandemic delayed our progress. However, the pandemic also highlighted the need for better networking solutions. By late 2020, I decided to fully commit to Linxy. I assembled a team of tech advisors, engineers, and designers to build and refine the app. It’s been a collaborative effort, and each team member has contributed their expertise to bring Linxy to life.

It’s great to see such dedication. I also noticed that Linxy has an entertainment aspect. Can you elaborate on that?

Joel Puthoff: Yes! Linxy isn’t just about making connections; it also aims to enhance the experience of those connections. We’re developing features to make events more engaging and fun. For instance, our new “hue” feature will allow event organizers to customize experiences for attendees, making networking more enjoyable. We’re inspired by the success of location-based games like Pokémon Go and want to integrate elements of that into Linxy to foster meaningful and entertaining connections.

It’s clear that Linxy has a lot of potential. From what I’ve seen, it’s just the beginning, and I’m excited to see where it goes. We’ll take a quick break, and when we return, we’ll dive into the latest improvements to the app and discuss more about its future. Stay tuned!

Hey, welcome back to rBeatz.com. This is Oui Talk Raw, and today I’m joined by Joel and Leo from Linxy. It’s been a fascinating conversation about this app. There have been some exciting upgrades recently, so let’s dive into those.

Joel Puthoff: Yeah, absolutely. Initially, we focused on solving the problem of whether people wanted a product to connect in real time. We’ve addressed that and gathered a lot of data from users. Now, we’re zeroing in on finding where the action is and enhancing our community feature. People want to build and expand their communities, whether it’s a run club or a tech group. Existing community software hasn’t fully met these needs, so we’re seeing many users transition from Meetup to Linxy for our community features.

Leo Adams: Linxy 2.0, which we’re rolling out today (pending approval from Google and Apple), is all about helping users find community hubs in their cities. The Linxy map shows where people with similar interests are gathering—be it at events or local hotspots like co-working spaces, coffee shops, and festivals. For instance, we’re currently working with a major festival in the U.S. to create Linxy-specific areas for attendees.

That sounds incredible. Can you tell us more about how Linxy 2.0 differs from its predecessor?

Joel Puthoff: Linxy 2.0 is designed to be the go-to app for finding real-time action. Unlike other event apps where you download, attend, and then delete, Linxy helps you make meaningful connections at events and build communities that extend beyond a single event. You can check out Linxy hotspots in any city and find gatherings aligned with your interests—whether it’s tech, culture, or any other field.

Leo Adams: Exactly. Linxy 2.0 combines elements from event software like Meetup with location-based features similar to Pokémon Go, creating a unique product that enhances real-time experiences. Users can find events, check in at locations, and connect with people who share similar interests.

It sounds like a game-changer. What’s the user experience like when someone opens the app for the first time?

Joel Puthoff: The first step is finding the action. Users can search for events or locations based on their interests. After setting up a profile with your social links and interests, you can easily connect with others at the same event or location. This eliminates the usual small talk and helps users find common ground quickly.

Leo Adams: Additionally, we’ve upgraded our performance with Linxy 2.0 based on user feedback. We have regular collaborative calls with our team to prioritize new features and improvements. Our team is growing with talented individuals who are passionate about solving this problem and creating a strong, engaged community.

Speaking of building your team, how do you raise funds for a project like this?

Joel Puthoff: We’ve explored various avenues. Initially, I funded the early stages myself. As we progressed, we started seeking investments. Crowdfunding has been a significant part of our strategy. We recently launched a campaign on WeFunder, allowing people to invest in smaller amounts. This approach has helped us build a community of investors who are excited about Linxy’s mission. We’re also in talks with angels and venture capitalists now that we have more traction and revenue.

Leo Adams: Crowdfunding has been instrumental in giving our community a stake in Linxy’s success. We’ve raised over $100,000 in a short time and continue to gain momentum. This model aligns with our mission to make Linxy accessible to everyone and allows us to delay a formal Series A until 2025 if needed.

That’s impressive. It sounds like Linxy is poised for great things. I appreciate you both coming on the show and sharing your journey. We’ll definitely help get the word out.

Joel Puthoff: Thanks for having us, Terry.

Leo Adams: Yes, thank you!

And thank you to everyone tuning in. As always, we’re here to spotlight innovations that bring us closer together. This was a perfect example. See you next time on Oui Talk Raw at rBeatz.com. Much love.
