Suki Waterhouse – New Single “Every Day’s a Lesson in Humility”
Suki Waterhouse has collaborated with Belle & Sebastian on the new single “Every Day’s a Lesson in Humility.” Released on Sub Pop’s Singles Club Vol. 8, this laid-back song is the B-side to Waterhouse’s recent “To Love” single. Full of twee beauty, natural sweetness, and summer-time vibes, this breezy tune very much lives up to its name.
“Every Day’s a Lesson in Humility” was written as a team, with Belle & Sebastian producing, Kevin Burleigh mixing, and Frank Arkwright mastering the song at Abbey Road Studios in London. It combines the best qualities of each artist, with fizzy mid-range instrumentation mixed perfectly with light, airy vocals and a clear, languid groove.
This song is rather cute, with Waterhouse’s dream pop vocals instantly recognizable against Belle & Sebastian’s soft musical backdrop. Coming in at a snappy three minutes, this song is very pop in an understated indie fashion. While the lyrics are easy to ignore given the gentle flow, Waterhouse presents humble life lessons backed by wavering melodic lines and just the right amount of sparkle.
Suki Waterhouse’s “To Love” and the Ttrruuces Connection
This well-received collaboration comes — literally — on the back of Suki Waterhouse’s latest solo single, “To Love,” which was released in early March 2023. “To Love” was produced by Jules Apollinaire and Natalie Findlay, who make up the English psychedelic duo Ttrruuces. They also produced Suki’s hit single “Good Looking,” which came a few months earlier in August 2022.
Jules Apollinaire and Natalie Findlay first met in the summer of 2014, with the first Ttrruuces song released in 2019 and their debut album following in 2020. A number of singles have come out since, and their next album, Jjuuiices, is set for release on October 20, 2023. Along with releasing and touring their own music, these beloved alt-pop radicals have also been working on music for Suki Waterhouse.
The Ttrruuces duo are the team behind some of Waterhouse’s best-known hits, and they also have writing and production credits for many other artists. They do their magic together and apart, with Natalie Findlay releasing her own music as Findlay and Jules Apollinaire working with artists like the Wanton Bishops and Black Honey. Ttrruuces are a real force in the well-connected psych-pop scene, and fans can expect much more great music on the horizon. October 6 playing live at The Amp Ballantyne.
Suki Waterhouse — Musician, Actor, Touring Artist
“Every Day’s a Lesson in Humility” and its A-side “To Love” followed Waterhouse’s debut album on Sub Pop from 2022. I Can’t Let Go was well-received, with 10 tracks embracing the natural ebbs and flows of life with a natural sense of beauty and grace. While Waterhouse is not the most amazing technical vocalist, the way she sings aligns with the subject matter and instrumentation of her music. Ranging from dusky to cinematic, from gentle sighs to rich drama, I Can’t Let Go is a great listen full of relaxed strength and quiet resilience.
Suki Waterhouse has long been in the public eye, having begun a career in modeling at the age of 16. After working for labels like Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ferragamo, she was presented with opportunities as an actor. She has appeared in numerous films, including The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Assassination Nation, Detective Pikachu, and Love, Rosie. In her latest role, she portrayed Karen Sirko in the musical drama miniseries Daisy Jones & the Six.
Waterhouse continues to work as a musician, releasing new music and touring as a headliner and support act. She’s had sold-out shows in the United States and Europe and performed regularly at festivals around the world. Among others, Waterhouse has worked with Father John Misty, Blondshell, and Dominic Fike. She has upcoming dates across the United States in October before taking a short break and heading “down under” to Australia and New Zealand in early 2024.
One of Suki Waterhouse’s most anticipated shows takes place at The Amp Ballantyne on October 6, which is located at 11115 Upper Ave, Charlotte, NC. This is her first time in Charlotte, and local fans will definitely be in for a treat. If you live in or around Charlotte or feel like a holiday in Queen City, tickets are still available — at least for now.
