From the Northern Territory to the Global Spotlight
VASSY is an Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer with a highly successful career. This acclaimed artist has released multiple platinum and gold recordings, and her music has been featured in movies, TV shows, and advertising campaigns from around the world. VASSY has scored multiple no. 1 hits on the Billboard dance charts, writing her own songs and working with some of dance music’s biggest heavyweights.
Raised in the remote Northern Territory and breaking through on radio station Triple J, VASSY has become a true icon of the global dance music community.
The VASSY story
VASSY’s birth name is Vasiliki Karagiorgos, which highlights her strong Greek roots. While she was born in Darwin in the early 1980s, her parents were proud Greek immigrants who came to Australia seeking a new way of life. After a great childhood in one of the most remote parts of the world, VASSY embraced her love of music and stepped into the spotlight. She had loved dance music from an early age, with her now-famous singing style also inspired by soul, jazz, and reggae sounds.
Like many successful Australian artists, VASSY grew her audience thanks to early support from Triple J. This national youth radio station hosts the Unearthed initiative, which helps to highlight upcoming Aussie talent from across the country. Back in 2003, VASSY won Triple J’s Unearthed Song of the Year competition, and her life has never been the same since as she was propelled forward. She was signed by Warner Bros. almost immediately, releasing her debut single “Wanna Fly” and her first album, My Affection, in 2005.
Music releases and industry collaborations
Success came fast, with VASSY’s modern dance sound finding love among publishing companies. She signed a US distribution deal in 2006, which helped her music reach a much larger audience. While she continued to write new tunes and participate in national tours, she got most of her exposure through TV shows and advertising campaigns. From Grey’s Anatomy to Ugly Betty, from Skechers to Sprite, her music was absolutely everywhere.
The recordings kept coming, with moving to the US and releasing her single “History” in 2010. Produced by Richard Vission, this track presented a sleeker version of the original sound. The singles kept coming over the next few years, including “Desire” in 2011 and “Could This Be Love” in 2012. During the same year, “We Are Young” hit no. 1 on the US Dance charts, a height she repeated over the years with “Hustlin,” “Nothing to Lose,” “Lost,” “Doomsday,” “Concrete Heart,” and “Chase.” Along with success in America, these badass beats have hit the top 10 in France, Australia, and Sweden.
Throughout the years, she has worked with some of the biggest names in dance music. Her collaboration with David Guetta and Showtek on “Bad” saw the artist’s profile explode in 2014, and her 2015 collaboration with Tiësto and KSHMR on “Secrets” was another huge smash. Along with these massive names, VASSY has also worked with Afrojack, Scooter, Disco Fries, Bonka, and other leading dance music producers.
Recent singles and current tours
VASSY’s latest single — “Pieces,” with Bingo Players and Disco Fries — came out in 2022, with the TUFF the Remix EP coming out in the same year. Since then, she has been touring the world to support her music and keep the good vibes flowing. She will be continuing her US and Mexico tour over the later part of 2023, headlining shows and exciting audiences on and off the dance floor. History was made in 2023, cementing her influence by becoming the first woman to win the EDMA ICON Award. If you see her name on a festival lineup or headline show anytime soon, fun times are almost guaranteed.
