CBS is a non-profit organization that was founded by musicians Beth Pollhammer, James Linton, Bill Buck, and Nick Karres, owner of The Double Door Inn. The Double Door Inn served as the original location, and remained home to CBS until 2017. They briefly moved to Plaza Midwood, and now CBS calls the grand Neighborhood Theatre their home. Starting with 52 charter members in April 1993, membership now tallies over 350.
CBS has partnered with the Charlotte Folk Society for events which introduces notable blues artists and blues tradition to local students through its Blues in the Schools Program. Their events often feature local and national talent, offering a mix of free and ticketed shows. The Society are self-supported through membership dues and rely solely on music lovers and donations, while actively promoting blues culture in Charlotte.
