TreeHouse! Live on Local Music Somewhere
Treehouse Brings Reggae Roots and Positive Vibes to rBeatz Studios
On a recent episode of Local Music Somewhere on rBeatz.com, host Greazy Keyz sat down with Myrtle Beach-based reggae fusion band Treehouse for an interview filled with good vibes, deep reflection, and live performances. Led by frontman Jeremy Anderson, also known as Positive J, the band includes John Bowling on keys, Nick Thompson on bass, and Dr. Love Beats on percussion. Together, they brought energy, authenticity, and a love for reggae-infused jam music to the rBeatz studio.
Treehouse has been performing together in some form since 2010. What started as a local cover band quickly evolved into an original project grounded in reggae but influenced by a wide range of genres and sounds. Jeremy shared that Myrtle Beach’s cover band scene gave him a foundation as a musician—but as he explored his passion for writing and creating, Treehouse was born. “We just wanted to travel, jam, and have fun,” he said, recalling the early days with his high school friends.
The band’s sound is rooted in reggae, but each song expands in a new direction—whether jazz, rock, or funk. Treehouse takes pride in being an evolving musical project rather than a fixed lineup or style. Their website even acknowledges both past and current members as a way to celebrate the band’s history and community spirit.
Greazy Keyz dove deeper into the spiritual side of their music, asking Jeremy about his connection to Rastafari and the messages woven into their songs. While not a devout Rasta, Jeremy draws inspiration from Eastern philosophy and Rastafarian principles of positivity, faith, and conscious language. “To me, it’s about the vibration in the words we speak,” he shared. “There’s power in how music brings people closer to something sacred.”
Newer members like Nick and Dr. Luv Beats talked about how the band encourages individual expression. Once the core songs are learned, there’s room to jam, stretch the music, and explore live. Their recent tours have leaned into this improvisational spirit, with long sets and seamless segues that keep the energy flowing. Saxophonist Jason, another key contributor, often leads these moments, creating spontaneous magic onstage.
Treehouse is also self-managed and fully independent, with Jeremy booking all the shows. Their philosophy is clear: keep it fun, stay connected, and go with the universal flow. The band recently kicked off a multi-week tour with dates throughout the Carolinas and the East Coast, including a hometown show at The Boathouse in Myrtle Beach and a stop at Charlotte’s Visulite Theatre on March 14.
To close out the rBeatz session, the band performed three standout songs: “Blessings,” “Holding On,” and “Blows My Mind.” Each song showcased their laid-back grooves, thoughtful lyrics, and unmistakable love for what they do.
Whether you catch them live or listen online, Treehouse brings a spirit of unity, exploration, and joy to every performance.
