From humble beginnings as a SoundCloud rapper in 2021 to collaborations with Scott Storch and other rap royalty, this young man is definitely on the rise.
Let’s learn more about BLP Kosher, from his early life as a skateboarding kid to his rapid rise and recent collaborations. We’ll also review his recent album release, including deep dives into “The Big Dipper,” “Jack and Jill,” “Pumpkin Patch,” and “Jit Slid.”
Early life and skateboarding history
Benjamin Landy Pavlon was born on May 3, 2000. His parents were living in Boca Raton, Florida, and he enjoyed a fantastic childhood in his sunny East Coast home. Long before he took the BLP Kosher name, Benjamin was an avid skateboarder with big dreams and lots of talent. He started skating at 7, spending time in the skate park and learning tricks from older boys. There was a healthy skate scene in Broward County at the time, and the young man took advantage of every opportunity coming his way.
Pavlon was good enough to become semi-professional in his teenage years, hooking up with sponsors like Habitat Skateboards, HUF Footwear, Mad Skate Shop, and Nili Widerker. He took part in lots of competitions and featured on the Vice Skateboarding Channel. During these formative years, Benjamin developed his love for hip-hop beats and culture. Rap music was always blasting from the skate park, and before long, his life took a whole different direction.
Jewish faith and music career
Before we get into BLP Kosher’s early career, it’s important to understand his history. Pavlon comes from a Jewish family, and he’s always worn his faith with pride. While he didn’t grow up observant and didn’t keep kosher, prayer was always an important aspect of his life. This is a practice he continues to this day, with the young man recently saying, “I would pray randomly at a bus stop, or when I’m doing something like jaywalking, I’ll start praying… I would live a non-religious lifestyle but still pray.”
As Benjamin got older, he became more devout and started observing Shabbat. He also started to walk around wearing a Bukharian Kippah, the famous Star of David chain widely associated with the Jewish faith. In his most conspicuous Jewish act, the young man also started to grow his sidelocks or payot. This Jewish custom is followed by many men and boys in Orthodox Jewish communities, and it quickly became Benjamin’s iconic hairstyle. He made this decision after teaching a close friend to say Kaddish, a Jewish prayer that elevates the soul to heaven.
Benjamin Landy Pavlon had always loved rap music, ever since hearing XXXTentacion, Lil Wayne, and Camila Cabello at the skate park. He never thought about becoming a rapper, however, until the world took a nasty turn in 2021. When the global pandemic and lockdown period started, the young man discovered his talent for rapping. Before long, he was steadily releasing music on SoundCloud with his mentor Jew Sheisty. As a fellow Jewish rapper, Sheisty showed Pavlon the ropes and helped him embrace a brand-new name.
New name and music releases
Sheisty originally came up with Benjamin’s stage name, after the duo posted a song on SoundCloud. He already had the “BLP” moniker from his skating days, with “Kosher” added to showcase the rapper’s Jewish heritage. With such a strong identity, the upcoming rapper was now forced to deal with prejudice: “There were people who would crack little jokes and say some Nazi garbage. I tried to laugh at them because, at the end of the day, that’s fluff. The goal is to change minds and views.”
Kosher moved forward bravely, however, and was never concerned about a negative reaction: “The internet is going to be the internet, and they’re really not going to understand. But I know what it means to me. So I might as well just be myself and include skateboarding and being Jewish.”
From the start, the young rapper’s tracks were deeply inspired by Jewish themes. He combined witty one-liners with knowledge of pop culture and Jewish traditions, in a mingling of cultures rarely heard before.
BLP Kosher’s first major hit was “Mazel Tron,” featuring Detroit rapper BabyTron. The song received more than a million views in its first week, with the Jewish star going viral from the start. The music kept coming, with Pavlon releasing two mixtapes and an EP in 2021. The first mixtape, “Earth to Benjamin,” was quickly followed by “Angelfish,” and the EP “225 Bars” came out shortly after. A third mixtape, “BLP Kosher and the Magic Dreidel,” came out in 2022, followed by the artist’s first album in 2023.
BLP Kosher has now released three studio albums, a magnificent achievement for such a young man. Bars Mitzvah came out in 2023, as his first non-self-released recording on Dreidel Gang and Encore Recordings. 2024 saw the release of Scarecrow on the same imprint, and Brackish was released in June 2025. While everything released by BLP Kosher has impressed fans, his latest album has been particularly well-received.
Brackish
This much-anticipated album by BLP Kosher blends the rapper’s unique rhymes with funky synth lines and trap beats. It’s a strong album with notable high points, most of which come in the front half of the album. Brackish has lots of strengths, with the artist’s famous punchlines and technical skills mixed with solid singing and production choices. The sung vocals sound better than ever, with “Trauma Dump” and “Promises in Stone” two of the best tracks in this style.
Kosher’s signature cleverness and intricate wordplay make this album a fun listen from start to finish, and the beats and samples selected add the perfect punch. The album features 15 tracks in total, including standout tracks with Scott Storch and Kodak Black.
The Brackish lineup:
- Back in Black
- Big Dipper
- Outer Space Pickleball
- Yota Cheese
- Jit Slid
- The FCAT
- Gap Kids
- Pumpkin Patch
- Jack and Jill
- Triple Citrus
- Trauma Dump
- Wheel of Love
- Survivor’s Guilt
- Benny and the Jetz
- Promises in Stone
The following three tracks deserve special mention:
The Big Dipper featuring Scott Storch
This is an insane track with equal contributions from BLP Kosher and Scott Storch. The legendary producer creates a rocking rhythm, which Kosher ignites with his nasty flow and memorable lyrics. Storch really annihilated the beat with this one, and his signature piano lines also add something special to the production.
Jack and Jill
This 2-minute jam has a fantastic beat reminiscent of old-school hip-hop classics. The flow is there from the start, but it gets even better as Kosher progresses through the verses. The rapper’s lyrics and wordplay are in full effect on this number, with the background synth lines adding a touch of magic without taking over.
Pumpkin Patch featuring Kodak Black
This track kicks off with a short atmospheric intro, with background noises and string-like synths adding color and emotion. It has a light touch overall, with Kosher and Kodak Black almost floating over the music. While it’s far from a dance number, the clicky electronic rhythms and intricate pad textures really fit the track’s flow.
Jit Slid featuring 1900Rugrat
This is another fire track from BLP Kosher, who adds fun vocal rhymes over a purposeful beat. The atmospherics in the background are based on vocal samples, and they add the perfect amount of feeling to the lyrics. Kosher leans into his playful nature on this one, with 1900Rugrat adding sprinkles on top with a fantastic verse.
If you like fun, vibey hip-hop with great production values and emotive atmosphere, BLP Kosher is worthy of your attention. His latest album Brackish brings something special to the hip-hop table, making it ideal for any urban playlist.
