Sofia Isella Miranda lives on the Gold Coast, Australia, but she was born in Beverly Hills in 2005. She enjoyed a rather nomadic childhood, traveling with her parents to places like Taiwan, Canada, Louisiana, and New Mexico. Now aged 19, Sofia first rose to fame after entering Triple J’s Unearthed competition in 2021. National recognition gave her renewed confidence and vigor, and the rest, as they say, is history.
As Sofia’s early songs achieved healthy radio rotation, she quickly grew a loud and loyal fan base. While she was one of many indie singer-songwriters to get featured by Triple J, she had something unique from the beginning. Sofia continued living in Queensland after being discovered, writing and recording from her Gold Coast home.
Sofia played her first gig in nearby Brisbane during this time, hitting the stage in March 2021 and opening for Sycco. Her quirky stage presence was uniquely captivating, and her musical talent was impossible to ignore. Sofia’s fan base grew as a result, and her live performance game became even more confident. As a result of her fantastic local shows and energetic online presence, Sofia was invited to play a number of festivals. While this release can be compared to Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep record, the fusion of alt-pop with classical piano and strings makes it truly unique. Sofia’s voice is incredible throughout, but it’s her visceral and sometimes disturbing lyrics that pull this record together. I Can Be Your Mother offers a tale of awakening femininity and unwanted sexualization in a world that often feels like it’s made for men.
‘Everybody Supports Women’
This track is the lead single from Sofia’s I Can Be Your Mother album. Released in 2024, it blends tight rhythms with modern production and timely lyrics. This is a track about misogyny in its many guises, both externalized and internalized. Sofia shows how even the most positive aspects of femininity can be twisted and turned back against a woman. Even the cover features beat-up, broken-down mannequin heads, with even the most idealized woman unable to escape endless criticism and universal hatred.
‘Dogs Dinner’
This song is the latest release from Sofia Isella Miranda, and it brings her into new and exciting territory. From the outset, listeners enjoy an appetizer of breakbeats and tightly tuned snare drums layered beneath electric guitars and studio distortion. Sofia then gets to work, presenting her deep thoughts in a whirlwind of pop whispers and slam-poetry verses.
Like other alt-pop artists of the moment, Sofia delivers her message against a grungy electronic background. She explores the dark side of love and lust, highlighting intense intimacy and tension as she struggles to find release. Like always, Sofia blends in organic sounds with this darkness, presenting a fascinating and rather delicious narrative that really captivates the ear.
Recent Shows and Upcoming Tours
Over the last two years, Sofia Isella has caught the attention of music lovers and taste-makers around the world. Her musical vibe was on-trend from the start, and some pretty incredible breaks came her way. Along with releasing great music, Sofia is famous for supporting the one and only Taylor Swift. She was invited to play on The Eras Tour, opening for the world’s biggest artist at the iconic Wembley Stadium. This amazing show took place on August 15, 2024, and Sofia’s world has never been the same.
